Ovatian Neoplasms in Young Girls


Abstract
A seven year old female child was admitted to Dept. of Surgery of Seoul National University Hospital because of abdominal mass and distended abdomen.
About tow months prior to admission on June 22, 1968. she noted diffuse swelling of right upper and left lower quadrant and later abdominal mass become recognized. The mass has been gradually increased in size and she had noted a gradually enlarging abdomen.
Her dyspnea become progressively worse and she had spent a lot of time in bed for weeks before admission.
Physical examination upon admission revealed a moderately developed and nourished 7 year old child in no acute distress but who had slightly respiratory distress due to abdominal distension, and child sized palpable mass which is hard in consistency, but nontender, of no fluctuation and only slight mobility in the lower abdomen.
Under general anesthesia through right paramedian incision, child head sized tumor mass was in lower abdomen arised from right ovary which is adhered in part with greater omentum showing disteneded blood vesels.
The mass was extirpated with right adnexa. The ovarian mass was diagnosed microscopically as granulosa cell tumor.
The other 10 year old female child was admited because of abdominal pain and child head sized mass in abdomen which developed about one month ago.
At the time of admission her dyspnea has become progressively worse, abdominal distension and discomfort were present.
Under general anesthesia, left oophrectomy was performed. The operative specimen showed micrscopically diffuse anaplastic cells consisting of round to oval shaped hyperchromatic unclei and pseudograndular formation.
It was diagnosed microscopically as unclassified malignant neoplasm in ovary and malignant neoplasm metastasized to cul-de-sac.
